KEYWORDS: thermal environment, standards, Santiago, passive climate control
Standards alone do not affect the built environment if they are not carried into built form by architects and builders, themselves taking them from the laboratories and bureaucracies who issued them. As technical, sociocultural and political artefacts, they are never autonomous. However, it can be relevant to adress the issue of energy-efficiency starting from the standards alone, or “through” standards, as they become an actor in the improvement of the buildings and city climate. I will present their effects on the creation and regulation of thermal environment(s) in Santiago de Chile.
